The Columbian editorial “In Our View: We Deserve Transparency,” stated on Sept. 14: “It is a simple and inarguable premise: State lawmakers should be subject to the same disclosure laws as city councilors, county commissioners, and mayors.”
Kudos to Rep. Vicki Kraft, R-Vancouver, who was the only current Clark County elected official with guts to vote “no” on that terrible bill that exempted Washington lawmakers from the state’s voter-approved Public Records Act (Senate Bill 6617), which barely had any public input whatsoever.
How refreshing that one of our own public officials, who works for us, would have nothing to hide, including her email, calendar, phone calls, text messages, etc. Let that sink in for a minute. An authentic politician in favor of open and accessible government! Such a rarity. Even The Columbian’s newspaper editors viewed Kraft’s vote favorably!
How many local public officials do you know who are that honest and transparent? Not many, I suspect. Exactly what secrets, back office deals, meetings and correspondence are they are attempting to hide? What lip-service statements are they offering up this week? Excuses, excuses, excuses.
